9:00 am - 1:00 pm Drue Bullington Playful Pedagogy in Elemental Music and Movement Elevate your teaching and power up your pedagogy through the joyful lens of elemental music and movement! In this hands-on workshop, you'll explore the creative potential of mindful movement, rhythm and melody creation, improvisation, storytelling, drawing, and more. With Orff instruments, recorders, and ukuleles in the mix, you’ll experience artistically rich, Monday-ready lessons that are immediately usable in your classroom. Bring your hand drum, soprano recorder, ukulele (if you have one), and your sense of adventure. Come ready to make music, make memories, and leave with a treasure trove of ideas to inspire both you and your students! |
Drue Bullington teaches elemental music and movement at Brownstown Elementary School in Conestoga Valley School District in Lancaster, PA. Bullington is twice a graduate of West Chester University of Pennsylvania where he received a B.S. in Music Education and a M.M. in Music Education with a certification in Orff Schulwerk. Drue holds a second master’s degree from Wilkes University in Online Teaching and Learning with an Online Educator’s Certificate of Endorsement from the State of Pennsylvania.
He is a Teacher Educator in several American Orff Schulwerk Association Levels Certification programs around the U.S., serving as the Course Director at West Chester University. He offers numerous professional development and workshop sessions every year on elemental music and movement through the Orff Schulwerk Approach, elemental music and movement applications in the classroom, incorporating technology, and integrating the soprano ukulele into the K-12 music classroom. Drue serves as President of the Board of Directors of the American Center for Elemental Music and Movement. He is also an editor on the American Orff Schulwerk Association’s Reverberations Publication Committee.

9:00 am - 1:00 pm Crystal Pridmore The Magic Is in the Teaching: Making Orff-Schulwerk Come Alive What makes an Orff-Schulwerk lesson work? Is it the perfect song? The clever game? The beautifully crafted lesson plan? Maybe... But the real magic happens in what the teacher does with the music. In this highly interactive workshop, we’ll step into the role of students and explore the teaching moves that transform simple songs, games, movement experiences, and musical ideas into rich Orff-Schulwerk experiences. Through singing, moving, playing, improvising, creating, and plenty of laughter, we’ll examine how teachers use modeling, pacing, language, choice, challenge, repetition, surprise, and joyful discovery to keep students engaged and growing. Come ready to play and to look at your own teaching with fresh eyes. You’ll leave with activities you can use immediately, along with a deeper understanding of how to teach the activity so the magic can happen. |
Crystal Pridmore has over 20 years of experience as an elemental music and movement, choir, and strings teacher in San Diego, CA. She holds a BA in Music Education and MA in Teaching and 3 levels of certification in Orff-Schulwerk. She is the creator and co-host of the Chaotic Harmony Podcast, a curriculum developer and teacher coach for the San Diego Youth Symphony early childhood programs, and a teacher educator for Guitars in the Classroom.
In addition, Crystal serves as the San Diego American Orff Schulwerk Association Chapter Past President, and is a board member of the American Center for Elemental Music and Movement.

9:00 am - 1:00 pm Katie Traxler Building Community Through the Orff Approach and Learning Centers The Orff Schulwerk approach provides a multitude of organic opportunities to engage students in social emotional learning embedded in active music making. In this workshop, we will explore activities that demonstrate how to create a welcoming space where students can bravely share their ideas, feelings, and curiosity, and how to foster a learning environment where they are encouraged to build and strengthen both peer relationships and teacher-student relationships. Orff Schulwerk puts our students at the heart of the experience. Let’s discover how we put our students’ hearts at the center of our practice. In the second half of our workshop, we will explore how to use creative learning centers in the music classroom. Learn how to introduce multiple kinds of centers and help students develop appropriate small group behavior in order to implement center routines into your music class. Get ready for some fun!! |
Katie Traxler has been teaching PK-5th grade music, orff and recorder ensembles, chorus, piano, and ukulele and guitar clubs in public schools for over 20 years. Currently she is teaching K-4th grade music in Belle Chasse, LA. She also teaches Basic Pedagogy Levels I and II for AOSA Certification courses, leads PD for local chapters, school districts, and conferences across the country, and is serving on the AOSA Orff Echo Editorial Board.
