In Person- 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Kerri Lynn Nichols Creative Dance to Enhance "Creative dance enhances our cognitive, social-emotional and physical well-being. It is a powerful tool that is often ignored in schools, set aside for P.E. class or private studio work. Movement initiates body cognition, memory and our developmental systems. In this workshop, we will playfully explore movement through a simple, conceptual lens, linking learning to any subject while promoting self-care and relaxation. Find out how to use movement to improve student engagement and enthusiasm as well as classroom management. Special attention will be given to the connection between movement and music. Wear comfortable clothes for movement, with or without shoes, and prepare to have FUN!" |
Kerri Lynn Nichols has been a music and creative dance instructor for over thirty-five years teaching all ages in the public and private sectors in voice, piano, percussion and composition. She holds Bachelor Degrees in Music Education and Vocal Performance and a MA in Creative Arts. She earned her Master Level Orff-Schulwerk certification from UC Santa Cruz and the University of Memphis and has studied at the International Course at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.

Effortless Play: Using the Schulwerk to Enhance
Creativity
"There’s always a place for creation – a folk dance with a twist, a chance to explore the xylophone, or an opportunity to see what your body can do with one word – but pulling these ideas from our students can be challenging. Let’s go back to the Schulwerk roots of playfulness, discovery, and wonder as we explore these ideas and more through student-led choices, improvisation, risk-taking, and more. We’ll unearth the unexpected, so join us on the journey!"
